I don’t know about you, but one of my go-to meals when I don’t feel like cooking or just need something quick is spaghetti. I think it has become one of our family’s favorite easy meals because it’s so simple to accommodate everyone’s likes and dislikes.
In our family, I have one kid who is basically a vegetarian, while the other loves meatballs with her spaghetti. With one pot of pasta and a few different toppings, everyone can make their dinner the way they like it. That’s a win in my book!
When I was diagnosed with vestibular migraines and started following the Migraine Diet, I was discouraged to discover that many of the spaghetti sauces at the grocery store contained one or more ingredients on the “do not eat” list.
And I don’t know about you, but I don’t always have time to make spaghetti sauce from scratch!
So, I did what any determined spaghetti-loving mom would do: I went to my local grocery store and started checking labels, brand by brand, looking for something that would work.
That’s when I found Michael’s of Brooklyn Fresh Tomato & Basil Sauce.
What caught my attention was the simple ingredient list: tomatoes, fresh basil, fresh garlic, Italian olive oil, salt, black pepper, and parsley. That’s it!
Is it the cheapest jar of spaghetti sauce on the shelf? No. It’s still a little pricey compared with some of the other brands, but I think it tastes really good—and sometimes the convenience of having an easy option in the pantry is worth it.
Finding products like this has made following the Migraine Diet a little easier for me. Not every meal needs to be completely homemade. Sometimes it’s about finding simple products that work for you and make getting dinner on the table a little easier.
So, if spaghetti is one of your family’s quick-meal favorites too, this may be one worth checking out. As always, be sure to read the ingredient label yourself, since ingredients can change and everyone’s individual migraine triggers can be different.
